Mary Nuttall

M. B. Nuttall, ballet pianist, dies at age 41

 

Mary Beth Nuttall, 41...died of cancer Monday at Misericordia Hospital, Philadelphia.

 

A gifted classical pianist, Miss Nuttall was ballet pianist at the Academy of the Dance for almost 20 years.

 

She began studying piano at the Academy of Dance under Helene Antonova and Jamie Jamieson as a student at Mount Pleasant High School. She studied music at Mt. Holyoke College in Massachusetts for two years before transferring to the University of Delaware, where she obtained a bachelor's degree in 1963.

 

She went to work as a clerk for the Du Pont Co. in Wilmington after graduation but left after several years to do graduate study in piano at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. She was the ballet pianist for Boston University and the Boston Ballet Company from 1968 to 1973.

 

Miss Nuttall returned to Wilmington in 1973 and rejoined the Academy of the Dance. She went back to work for Du Pont in 1981and worked in the Petrochemicals Division before leaving due to illness in June. She is survived by two brothers, David A. and J.J., both of Wilmington, and her mother, Mary J. Nuttall, also of Wilmington.

 

The family suggests contributions to the Mary Beth Nuttall Scholarship Award, Marblehead School of Ballet, Marblehead, Mass.
