Judith Reed

Judith Bee Reed, 64, of Winter Park, Fla., died Tuesday [Sept. 12, 2006] at Kindred Hospital of Tampa, Fla.

She had struggled against emphysema and its complications for many years. She was born Jan. 1, 1942 in Delaware to Harold C. and Helen (Hunt) Reed. She went all through Delaware City Schools, graduating valedictorian of her class at Willis High School. She attended Mount Holyoke College for two years. When her mother became ill, she returned to finish her college career at Ohio Wesleyan University, graduating in 1963. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority at O.W.U.

Her career started in Chicago, where she worked for an insurance publication for several years. She then worked for an insurance organization in Columbus. She played a key role in insurance agency support. When the opportunity arose about 25 years ago to flee Ohio's wintry weather, she transferred to Orlando, Fla., to continue her career there. Her main joy in life was her son, Cody. She was so proud of his recent success in college, where he studies in the honors program. She had a great sense of humor and was a loyal Ohio State fan. She especially enjoyed watching football and basketball games. Her recent hobbies included all types of word games at which she excelled, and playing solitaire on the computer. She will be missed by her family, friends and colleagues.

She is survived by her son, Cody Reed Baxley of Winter Park, Fla.; her sister, Alexe ReedFogle; her brother-in-law, Chris Fogle; nephew, Reed Fogle, all of Delaware; and her former husband, Clyde Baxley, of Orlando, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, H.C. (Red) Reed and Helen (Hunt) Reed.
